Soil Health Evaluation of Farmland Based on Functional Soil Management—A Case Study of Yixing City, Jiangsu Province, China

Given that farmland serves as a strategic resource to ensure national food security, blind emphasis on the improvement of production capacity can lead soil overutilization and impair other functions. Hence, evaluation health (SH) should comprehensively take productivity ecological environmental effects into account. In this study, five functions from perspective functional management were summarized, including primary productivity, provision cycling nutrients, intrinsic biodiversity, water purification regulation, carbon sequestration regulation. For each function, in view natural ameliorable conditions affecting SH, basic indicators selected two aspects inherent dynamic properties, restrictive chosen considering external properties or elements, with minimum limiting factor method coupled weighted linear model. The new system was tested verified Yixing City, China. healthy optimally soils concentrated northeast mid-west whereas unhealthy predominant south around Taihu Lake. main limitations SH included cation exchange capacity, nutrient soluble carbon. using crop performance validation method, positive correlation noted between stability index index, indicating is reasonable.
